In the sixth grade Kelesha won best Beginning Woodwind at
McChesney Junior High School in Oakland, California.
She went on to take private lessons with Lupe Duran,
student of Jean-Pierre Rampal. Kelesha was then selected
from about thirty flutists to be in Orchestra in her Senior Year
of High School. Although, Kelesha wanted to be a Music
Major in High School, it would be years before her dream
would be realized. It all started to come together about
twenty years ago.
A friend of Kelesha's, from grade school asked her
to play a challenging arrangement of a "Beatles" song for
her wedding. Kelesha figured based on the applause, that
perhaps there might be music in her life beyond grade school.
After, enrolling in San Joaquin Delta College full time in 2001,
and again in 2007, Kelesha completed a Supplementary
Authorization in Music. Kelesha knew she was doing a
balancing act, teaching, continuing her education and songwriting
when the spirit moved her.
The upcoming CD will reflect training in composition from
San Joaquin Delta College, where she was a Music Major.
Other coursework at Laney College has been helpful in
equipping Kelesha to function in her role as a Visual and
Performing Arts Teacher.
Kelesha has been songwriting for over ten years. If
this three CD project concludes Kelesha's songwriting career
remember that she was striving for her best. Perhaps she will
rest now knowing she enjoyed making the music that now helps
her community, and is a keepsake of musical sharing for her
family and friends.
Kelesha has taken more Music Major coursework since 2007.
If her educational status is upgraded by the California Commission
on Teacher Credentialing, she will describe it in this paragraph as
soon as she gets word of it.
