Kelesha's Place

In the sixth grade Kelesha won best Beginning Woodwind at
McChesney Junior High School in Oakland, California.
She went on to take private lessons with Lupe Duran,
student of Jean-Pierre Rampal. Kelesha was then selected
from about thirty flutists to be in Orchestra in her Senior Year
of High School. Although, Kelesha wanted to be a Music
Major since High School, it would be years before her dream
would be realized. It all started to come together about
twenty years ago.

A friend of Kelesha's, named Ann, asked her to play a challenging
arrangement of a "Beatles" song for her wedding in the 80's.
Kelesha figured based on the applause, that perhaps there might
be music in her life beyond High School. After, enrolling in San
Joaquin Delta College full time in 2001, and again in 2007, Kelesha
completed her Supplemental Authorization. In 2009, she completed
a Minor in Music. Kelesha knew she was doing a balancing act,
teaching, continuing her education and songwriting when the
spirit moved her.

Her dream was fulfilled when she had the opportunity to be a Visual
and Performing Arts Teacher for Stockton Unified School District. It was
there that she was asked to start a choir. She took Sightsinging
privately from an instructor in Oakland her first year. The second year
she completed Band and Choir Conducting.

Kelesha would like to thank  the colleges and universities that have
helped turn her dream into a reality to be an Arts Resource Teacher.
Kelesha would also like to thank Dr. Wesley Broadnax, Director
of Bands at Cal State  East Bay for working out a schedule for
coursework in Vocal and Band Conducting. Initially, San Joaquin
Delta College was supportive in helping turn her dream
into a reality, as Laney College also did.

Currently, she enjoys providing entertainment in the Downtown Art Walk.
Who knows what else is in store for this musician who looks forward
to sharing music that brings some peace to a listeners busy day.
